My heart can’t smile, its been a while; my heart can’t smile.

Its been a while since you’ve been gone. You left the nest and left us alone.

Alone with worry, alone with pain, alone with hurting hearts that will take a while to mend again.

My heart can’t smile as tears stream down my face; only sadness has taken my smiles place.

Memories and thoughts run together as one clouding my mind wondering if we still have our bond.

My heart wants to know why, but my mind sighs, my eyes want to see the one they’ve always saw.

My mind can’t rest, my eyes can’t sleep, my mouth barely eats…my unsmiling heart can’t take it.

Not now, not ever accepting this plea for uncontrolled freedom of the one that soared away.

Not knowing, not seeing, not hearing, not being here that I may hear, laugh, and smile…just trying to wrap it all around my unsmiling heart. ©2021
