Dream Sequence

Sitting alone by the fireplace watching the flames flicker, listening to the crackling sounds of the fire as the embers grows hotter and hotter. As the rain falls softly down onto the roof, the tin top makes music from the raindrops. Drinking hot chocolate thinking about the long gone days of years past, my eyes slowly close to take me to a dream world filled with happiness and joy.

As I open my eyes, it as if I was still in the same place, but things were different. Things looked old and some things looked new. I kind of felt like I knew where I was, but then I realized I was lost in the place of my past. I saw people I once knew, and I saw people who I did not know, nor had I ever seen them before. I couldn’t understand the magnitude of the emotions I began to have. Tears started streaming down my face as I walked along the rocky roads that were underneath my feet. The clothes were not of new fashion, the stores were not like the stores of today, they were all empty buildings but the towns people were still working as if they had not a care in the world.

While walking along the rocky streets, the sky began to change colors right before my eyes, I could not believe what I was seeing! All of a sudden, clouds started rolling in and singing songs of long ago. The funny thing is, I knew every one of the songs they were singing. All of the people began to sing with loud voices as the trees clapped their hands while they sang. As I walked along the rocky streets, the sun began to shine so bright that I was almost blinded by it. I walked on until I came to a place where I could sit and rest; I felt like I had been walking for miles, but my feet weren’t tired. While I was sitting on the wooden bench, a lady walked up to me and handed me a cup of hot chocolate. How did she know that I liked hot chocolate? Who told her? Who knew that I liked hot chocolate? She introduced herself. She said her name was Cinnamon. I never told her my name though, at least not right then. She talked about her childhood and all of the things she had gone through. She told me about the time when she first fell in love, about the first time she got married, and about how she never could settle in one place for too long. I did not understand why she was telling me these things. I wanted to ask her why, but I did not because I did not want to be disrespectful. After she finished talking, she asked me what my name was, and I told her that my name was Libra. She shook my hand and walked away; disappeared into thin air.

I was completely astonished at what had just happened. I could not wrap my mind around it to save my life. Time passed as I sat on that wooden bench. I started to get up, but someone else walked up to me and started talking about all of the things they wanted to do in their life. I just listened to what they had to say. She said her name was perfume. She shook my hand and walked away. I said to myself that I had to get back home, but I could not find my way, and I could not remember how I got to where I was in the first place. I started to get up again, and two people walked up to me and told me that everything was going to be alright, but I did not know what they were talking about, they did not introduce themselves, but it was two little girls, and they just walked away into thin air. At that point I had become afraid of my surroundings. Things were just out of the ordinary. I felt a tap on my shoulder from behind which startled me, and it was someone I had never seen, or known before just as the others. He was old enough to be my father three times over. He told me not to give up on my dreams because they were going to come true. He said that I had to be patient and have faith. I never said anything to anyone about my dreams, or what I wanted to do in my life, so I just sat there listening. When he was finished talking, he said his name was Hope. He left just as he came, walked away into thin air.

I could not put it all together at that moment, but I knew it all meant something. I sat there and closed my eyes just for a minute, but when I opened them, I was still sitting in my chair by the fireplace. I realized it was all just a dream. It was a dream of my future, and the people were the people who was going to cheer me on in all of my journeys that I embarked on. I would not have to worry about a thing as long as I had hope to hold on to.

Finishing my hot chocolate, I began to think about what had taken place in my dream. Never would I have ever thought I would have had a dream like that. Seeing strange people who I had never seen before who knew just what to say to make me think, and wonder about what I really want in my life. I never thought I would be taken back to part of my past when I gave up on everything I ever dreamed about…everything I ever wanted to do in my life. Sometimes things just happen like that. We never know what we are going to dream when we fall asleep.

Reality is hard, but in a dream world things are simple. You can do whatever you want to do. Well, maybe since I had that dream, I will rest knowing that all things are possible for those who believe. ©2021
